About our guided Whale Watching Tour

Each year Southern Right whales migrate into the coastal waters of the Western Cape to calve and nurse their young. These animals, often mere metres from the shore, provide unsurpassed whale watching opportunities.

Come and see these ‘gentle giants’ when embarking on our Whale Watching Tour. This 280km route will take us along the coast with plenty of pit stops to give us an opportunity to spot the southern right whales fluking, spouting, and spyhopping as they migrate through Cape waters. Of the whale species seen in the waters around the Cape, southern right whales are the most common. However, you might also get a chance to see humpback and Bryde’s whales too. There will also be sufficient time to explore Hermanus, rated as one of the world’s  top 12 whale-watching locations.

Please be sure to book at least 5 days prior to preferred travel date. A minimum of 3 bikes are required for guided tours.

Our itinerary for the tour is as follows:

We will start at the Makani showroom at 09H00 and head out on the N2 towards Gordon’s Bay. At Gordon’s Bay, we will take the scenic coastal road to Rooi-Els, stopping along the way at the many viewpoints to see if we can spot some whales. With over 70 bends on a road that twists past the towering Kogelberg mountain range, climbing and descending towards the sea in False Bay, this road makes for an exciting ride.

At Rooi-Els we stop for some well-deserved refreshments before completing the final leg to Hermanus.

We will spend around 4 hours exploring Hermanus. This will include a delicious lunch, before we will head back to Cape Town via Bot River on the N2. We will first go through the Houw Hoek pass and then tackle Sir Lowry’s Pass, where we will reach a height of 920m. At the top of the pass, we will stop to take in the magnificent view overlooking False Bay.

Please be aware that this tour may need to change due to weather, road conditions or other factors. Please be flexible, but rest assured your tour leader will make the final decisions only after consulting with group members. Your safety is our priority.
