About Our 2 Day West Coast Tour

At Makani, we offer one of the most exciting west coast tours South Africa has to offer – on Harley Davidsons! The Cape’s West Coast is famous for its old-world charm, stunning beaches and centuries-old rock art. All along this stretch of coastline, you will find a series of quaint historic towns and fishing villages. This stretch of coast is a seafood mecca with a number of open-air beach restaurants offering freshly caught seafood. The rugged beauty of the Cape West Coast will linger with you.

Although this tour can be undertaken at any time of the year, the most spectacular time is around August/September, where the normally dry West Coast landscape is transformed into a floral wonderland. Our trip takes us from Cape Town to Lamberts Bay and back again, with numerous interesting stops, including the West Coast Fossil Park.

Please be sure to book at least 10 days prior to preferred travel date. A minimum of 3 bikes are required for guided tours.

Our itinerary for the tour is as follows:

Day 1: Cape Town to Lamberts Bay (335km)

We depart the Makani office at around 09H00 and head out on the R27 northwards. We stop for quick refreshments at the seaside village of Yzerfontein, which boasts the longest beach in South Africa. From here we ride to the West Coast Fossil Park where you can see fossils of sabre tooth cats, bears, short necked giraffes, and many others, before popping in for lunch at the quaint fishing village of Paternoster, which boasts world renowned restaurants.

We then continue our journey passing through the seaside villages of St Helena Bay, Velddrif, Dwarskersbos, Elands Bay and arrive at our overnight destination Lamberts Bay. The rest of the day is spent exploring the seaside village, which is the home to the West Coast Harley Rally.

Day 2: Lamberts Bay back to Cape Town (400km)

After a West Coast breakfast we ride to the7th eldest town in the country, Clanwilliam, before turning south on the N7. We tackle the Piekenierskloof Pass and stop for refreshments at the popular “Kardoesie”. We then continue to Piketberg, where we turn off the N7 and ride to Port Owen, where we will have lunch. We then head back to the Makani offices, passing the Koeberg Nuclear Plant, and stopping in for mid-afternoon refreshments at Melkbosstrand. At the Makani office we will have an end of tour celebration!
