Here’s what to expect on this 2-day wine tour:
Day 1: Cape Town to Franschhoek (100km)

We depart from Cape Town at 08H00 and ride along the N2 before turning off to Stellenbosch. Our first stop is the historic university town of Stellenbosch, where we will have a quick tour of the Village Museum which showcases four houses of historic interest that represent different periods in the architectural development of the town.

Next, we will ride up the Helshoogte Pass. The Helshoogte Pass is one of the most loved and travelled roads in the Western Cape and it will take us through Pniel into Franschhoek. Franschhoek is nestled between towering mountains and is considered the food and wine heartland of South Africa. After some refreshments, we will head over to the Huguenot Monument and Museum.

The rest of the day is dedicated to exploring Franschhoek via the Franschhoek Wine Tram. This hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley – picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history.

Upon returning to the town centre, we will check into our accommodation, freshen up and head out for supper at one of the well-known restaurants of the region.

Day 2: Franschhoek back to Cape Town (330km)

After breakfast, we say goodbye to Franschhoek and ride up the exhilarating Franschhoek Pass towards Kleinmond. This pass is a favourite among local motorcyclists as it provides exceptional scenery. With a cliff face on your right and a sheer drop to your left, it will get your heart pumping.

We will stop in the small coastal village known as Kleinmond for some refreshments. After refreshments we travel down the scenic coastal road where we will make a stop to visit the penguin colony in Betty’s Bay. Stony Point in Betty’s Bay is home to over 3500 African penguins, which is quite a sight to see! From here, we will ride the coastal road to Muizenberg, past the naval base in Simon’s Town, and on to Cape Point Nature Reserve, where we will visit the most south western point of the African continent – The Cape of Good Hope. We will then go to the base of the lighthouse for a delicious lunch. Those who feel up to it can take a walk up to the lighthouse, whilst those less energetic can take the Funicular. The lighthouse viewpoint will provide a spectacular panorama of Cape Point.

After lunch we ride to Noordhoek via the quaint villages of Scarborough and Misty Cliffs. From Noordhoek we ride along what has often been described as one of the most scenic routes in the world – Chapmans Peak. This will take us to the coastal village of Hout Bay.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. We ride back to the Mother City past the beautiful beaches of Camps Bay, where we will say our goodbyes at the Makani offices, after partaking in some refreshments.

Please be aware that this tour may need to change due to weather, road conditions or other factors. Please be flexible, but rest assured your tour leader will make the final decisions only after consulting with group members. Your safety is our priority.
