OUR ITINERARY FOR THIS TOUR IS AS FOLLOWS:
We start at the Makani showroom and head out on the N2 towards Somerset West, and shortly afterwards tackle Sir Lowry’s Pass, where we will reach a height of 920m. At the top of the pass we will stop and enjoy the magnificent scenery overlooking False Bay.
We then continue our trip and have breakfast at top of the Houw Hoek Pass, where your guide will fill you in on the history of the pass, before descending and passing the small town of Botrivier. We will then turn off the N2 and ride to Villiersdorp where we will ride over the wall of the Theewaterskloof Dam, the biggest supplier of water to the City of Cape Town.
Once we pass Villiersdorp, we climb up the magnificent Franschhoek Pass, and after traversing its many curves we will stop at the top to take in the incredible view of this wine region. It is also the perfect stop to take some stunning photos. We will then descend into Franschhoek where our first stop will be at the Huguenot Memorial and Museum, after which we will have lunch in one of Franschhoek’s well-known restaurants.
Next, we will say a reluctant goodbye to Franschhoek and make a quick detour to the Drakenstein Prison (formerly known as Victor Verster prison where Nelson Mandela made his historic “Long walk to Freedom”) before descending the Helshoogte Pass into Stellenbosch. Upon arrival in Stellenbosch, we will pay a quick visit to the Village Museum to see how the town’s architecture and living conditions have evolved.
We will then leave Stellenbosh and travel to Paarl, where we will do a cellar tour of the KWV Emporium. The cellar tour is a must do! We will then head back to Cape Town, where we will say our goodbyes.
Please be aware that this tour may need to change due to weather, road conditions or other factors. Please be flexible, but rest assured your tour leader will make the final decisions only after consulting with group members.
