What your Cape Town bike tour will look like:
Gydo Pass is the next mountain pass on our route. This 7km long pass is named after a species of euphorbia which covers the slopes of the surrounding mountain. There are fantastic photo opportunities from the viewpoint which overlooks colourful orchards, fields and dams, all of which is surrounded by rugged mountains.
As we make our way on to Paarl, we will tackle Bain’s Kloof Pass, which is considered one of the most scenically dramatic routes in the country. This 28km pass is a remarkable feat of engineering that makes great sweeping curves past magnificent vineyards and will take us to a height of 594 meters. The descent will take us through a narrow road that cliffs to the side of the mountain, creeping around huge boulders and across sheer cliffs high above the foaming Witte River.
On arrival in Paarl we will have lunch and then undertake an interesting tour of the KWV cellar, always a highlight of the trip! Next, we will head out to the challenging Du Toit’s Kloof pass which was the original road to Cape Town prior to the opening of the Huguenot Tunnel in 1988. It is one of the Cape’s greatest passes and is considered a tight and tough ride with soaring cliffs that line the route.
After our descent, we will take a quick direct route back to the Makani Showroom.
